Now they had everyone together they needed to head out on their expedition
west, but first they had to train the men for everything they might encounter on the journey. They did such things as
practicing scientific methods of gathering seeds, and learning to draw and identify animals. The men also studied Native American culture. All of their training occured at Camp Dubois on the Wood River in Illinois.

To be on the safe side, they also packed an extensive medicine chest.
This medicine chest was very well-equipped and considered to be very helpful for the explorers with it holding more than twenty
remedies. They finally headed out on May 14, 1804, from St. Louis.
