As you can tell, Lewis had a huge expedition ahead of him, so his first
priority was to assemble a party to accompany him on the journey. The first person to be invited along was William Clark,
a friend of Lewis', and a fromer commanding officer in the army. Clark agreed to come, and so did about fifty
other men, many of whom knew Native American languages. Among these men were Patrick Gass, William Bratton, Alexander
Hamilton Willard, and George Gibson.

Also on the trip was York, Clark's slave, who had good hunting and fishing
skills. With this great team of men, one slightly larger task stopped them from heading out, and that was actually preparing for the trip.
